THE GREEN CEMETERY PROJECT WINNIPEG

A new grassroots group interested rethinking how we address burial in Manitoba in an ecologically friendly way. We are working toward establishing a green burial cemetery in Manitoba. We are primarily active through Facebook. We invite anyone interested in joining the conversation to join us.

TREES PLEASE WINNIPEG

Trees Please Winnipeg is a coalition of resident groups lobbying all levels of government to make long term sustainable infrastructure investment available to cities like Winnipeg for the maintenance, diversification and expansion of urban forests.

GLOBAL GREEN BURIAL ALLANCE

We acknowledge that our project does not fit the description of a truly “green” burial, in that it involves the scattering of cremated/water cremated remains.  However, we certainly are confident to describe out option as being “greener”.  With that, we are proud to be a member of the Global Green Burial Alliance.

TILLWELL

Tilwell is the first (and for now, only) provider of human aquamation services in Manitoba.  The company advises that: aquamation uses 90% less energy than flame cremation and produces no direct emissions. The process reduces our carbon footprint by eliminating our reliance on fossil fuels, eliminating the burden of waste associated with burning them, and preventing mercury and other toxins from being released into the atmosphere. As a water-based process, it’s gentler on the environment while providing families with the same dignified memorialization options.
